How easy is it to care for ‘Summer Beauty’ Allium?

Overall score: 10 (extremely easy). ‘Summer Beauty’ Alliums are one of the easiest plants I’ve encountered. I’ve planted them in the toughest conditions in my yard, in areas with full sun, no extra watering, and right next to a sidewalk that gets a ton of people and dog traffic.

They’ve survived it all and continue growing bigger each year. I started with three small plants and quickly wanted more, so after two years I divided them. Each plant had grown so much in those two years that I now have about 15 of these plants. I divided them at the end of the summer because I was too impatient to wait until cooler fall weather. Immediately after I divided them I went out of town, and it happened to be a week of high 90 degree weather and no rain. Somehow, each of these newly divided plants survived and are doing just fine the next year. So far they have been indestructible!

Preparing ‘Summer Beauty’ Allium for winter

‘Summer Beauty’ Allium doesn’t require any winter prep. You could trim the foliage back, but I’ve found that it dies down on its own and then comes back nicely the next year with no work on my part.
